What hotel SEO can and can't win

Be realistic about where a property's website can rank. Generic searches like "hotels in Jaipur" are dominated by OTAs, Google's own hotel results and travel guides. A single property rarely beats them there. Where a hotel's own site can win is in the more specific searches that bring better guests:

  • your property name and its variations (including common misspellings);
  • "heritage hotel near Amer Fort", "resort with pool on Delhi Road", "hotel near Jaipur airport";
  • "wedding venue in Jaipur for 300 guests", "banquet hall Ajmer Road", "corporate offsite near Jaipur";
  • experience searches: rooftop dining, haveli stays, desert camps near Jaisalmer, safari lodges near Ranthambore.

Hotel SEO is about building pages that deserve to rank for those searches, and making sure Google reads your property correctly.

The site structure we build

A page for each room type with real photos, size, bed type, occupancy, view, amenities and the booking button linked to that room in your booking engine. Room pages also catch searches like "suite with private pool Jaipur".

Venue and event pages: each lawn, banquet hall or poolside space with capacity in different layouts, catering options, photos of real set-ups, nearby parking and an enquiry form asking date and guest count.

Location and getting-here content: distance and travel time to the airport, railway station and main sights, plus genuinely useful guides written by your team ("a two-day Jaipur itinerary from our hotel", "where to shop for block prints near us"). These pages earn links and rank for planning searches.

Dining and experiences: restaurant menus as HTML text (not just PDFs), cooking classes, cultural evenings, spa, safaris, each with its own page if it's a real reason to visit.

Foreign-language pages only where they're real. If you receive many guests from a particular country and can maintain properly translated pages, add them with correct hreflang. Machine-translated pages do more harm than good.

Technical items specific to hotels

  • Hotel (or Resort) schema with address, geo-coordinates, check-in and check-out times, amenities and star rating where officially classified.
  • Fast pages despite large image galleries: modern image formats, lazy loading and correctly sized images.
  • Booking engine on a subdomain or third-party domain set up so analytics tracks bookings across domains and the main site keeps the SEO value.
  • No duplicate room pages created by the booking engine competing with your own room pages.

Reviews and reputation as ranking signals

Google, TripAdvisor and OTA review scores influence both ranking and the guest's decision. Respond to reviews on all of them, in your own voice, and use recurring feedback (slow check-in, noisy rooms facing the road) to fix real problems. Never buy or incentivise reviews.

Your Google Business Profile

Hotel profiles show amenities, prices from connected booking partners and photos. Keep amenities accurate, add new photos each season, answer the questions guests post and make sure your own booking engine appears alongside OTAs in the booking options. The direct booking strategy article explains this in more detail.

Measuring SEO for a hotel

Organic sessions to room, venue and guide pages; bookings and booking value from organic traffic in GA4 (with cross-domain tracking); wedding and event enquiries from organic; and clicks on your hotel profile. We track property-name searches separately so brand demand isn't confused with SEO growth.

Frequently asked questions

Can our website outrank MakeMyTrip or Booking.com?

For your own property name and specific experience or venue searches, often yes. For generic "hotels in Jaipur" searches, rarely, and that's fine.

Do we need a blog?

You need useful guides about your area and your experiences. Call it a blog or a guide section; what matters is that it helps guests plan.

Should room rates appear on the website?

A live booking widget with real rates is best. Static rate tables go out of date and frustrate guests.

How long does hotel SEO take?

Technical fixes and property-name improvements can help within weeks. Venue and guide pages usually take a few months, so start before peak season.

Do you work with hotels outside Jaipur?

Yes, across Rajasthan and India.
