India Tour By Car & Driver: Google Search Visibility Up About 5x in Three Months

Comparing the last three months with the three months before, Google Search Console shows indiatourbycaranddriver.com growing from 17 to 88 clicks and from 1.38k to 7.18k impressions, both about 5.2 times higher. Average CTR held at 1.2%, and average position moved from 37.6 to 40.7. This is early-stage growth. Google is now showing the site for many more searches, but mostly beyond the first page, and that's where the real work lies.

Google clicks for India Tour By Car & Driver rose from 17 to 88 in three months, with impressions up about 5.2x.

The client and our role

India Tour By Car & Driver plans private, tailor-made journeys across India with a local driver. Its site covers Golden Triangle and Rajasthan journeys, spiritual tours, day tours, honeymoons and adventure trips, more than 30 destinations, and a fleet that runs from sedans and SUVs to Tempo Travellers and coaches. We work with the site's Google Search Console property, and every figure here comes from it.

The numbers are small in absolute terms, and we'd rather say that up front. This page is about direction and visibility. It isn't a bookings story, and it makes no claim about enquiries or revenue.

  • Business: private car-and-driver tours and tailor-made India itineraries
  • Our confirmed involvement: Search Console access and search reporting

The numbers, side by side

Clicks and impressions both grew by about 5.2 times between the two periods. CTR stayed exactly where it was, at 1.2%. That consistency matters. It suggests the extra clicks came from the site appearing in more searches, not from a one-off spike on a single page. In plain terms, 88 clicks over three months is roughly one visit a day from Google search. It's a modest base, but it's a real start for a young tour site in a crowded category.

  • Clicks: 88 vs 17 (≈5.2x)
  • Impressions: 7.18k vs 1.38k (≈5.2x)
  • Average CTR: 1.2% vs 1.2% (unchanged)
  • Average position: 40.7 vs 37.6 (+3.1; worsening by 3.1 positions — changes in query mix may contribute, but query-level analysis is required to establish cause)

What an average position of about 40 means

Google calculates average position from the site's topmost result in each search where it appeared. An average around 40 tells us most of these impressions are happening on page four or five of the results, where few people scroll. So the 7.18k impressions are best read as a list of searches Google now considers the site relevant for, not as traffic the site is winning yet.

The slight dip from 37.6 to 40.7 is what we'd expect at this stage, and we don't read it as a decline. When a site starts appearing for a much wider set of queries, many of those new appearances come in deep on the results page. That pulls the average down even as total visibility rises. Query-level data will confirm whether that's the full story.

  • Position ~40 ≈ typically beyond page one (about 10 organic results per page, depending on the layout)
  • More queries entering at deep positions can lower the average while visibility grows
  • Next check: compare position for queries present in both periods

Where the opportunity is

The useful part of this data is the list of searches the site is already close on. Queries sitting around positions 11–20 are usually the quickest to move, because Google already rates the page as relevant. For a tour operator, those often map to specific journeys and destinations, the kind of searches a traveller makes while planning a route. We'd much rather strengthen those pages than chase broad, highly competitive terms like generic "India tour packages".

  • Pull queries and pages ranking roughly 11–30 and prioritise those tied to a real journey page
  • Check that each journey or destination page answers what the searcher needs: route, duration, car options, what's included
  • Review titles and snippets so the page's intent is clear at a glance

What we're working on next (opportunities, not results)

These are the opportunities we see from here. We'll report results only when the data supports them.

  • Segment Search Console by page and query, and track positions for queries that appear in both periods, so growth and position change can be read separately.
  • Prioritise the near-page-one journeys and destinations for content and internal-linking improvements.
  • Run a technical check on indexing and crawl coverage, so new journey pages are discovered and indexed.
  • Track enquiries ("Plan my journey" submissions) alongside search clicks, so future reports can move from visibility to bookings.
  • Repeat the 3-month comparison next quarter.

Questions this page answers

If impressions grew 5x, why did average position get worse?

Because the site started appearing for many more searches, often deep in the results. Those new appearances pull the average down even as overall visibility rises. We'll confirm this by tracking queries present in both periods.

Does this mean more tour bookings?

Not on its own. Search Console shows visibility and clicks. Bookings and enquiries need separate tracking, and we'll only publish them with data and the client's agreement.

Is 88 clicks in three months a meaningful result?

It's an early one. The absolute numbers are small, but the direction is clear and the site now has a much wider set of searches to build on.
