Start with the rules

Advertising legal services in India is not like advertising other professional services. The Bar Council of India Rules (Rule 36 of the Standards of Professional Conduct and Etiquette) restrict advocates from soliciting work or advertising, directly or indirectly. Since a 2008 amendment, advocates may run a website that shares factual information such as name, address, contact details, enrolment, qualifications and areas of practice, but promotional advertising remains restricted.

That changes what "paid ads" can mean for a law practice. We don't run campaigns that ask an Indian advocate to break professional rules, and we recommend that any plan is reviewed by you or your counsel before it goes live. This page explains what we can help with.

Who this page is for

  • Advocates and law firms in India who want to be easier to find and present factual information well, within the rules.
  • Legal service businesses that are not advocate practices, such as legal-tech platforms, document and registration services, compliance and company-secretarial firms, and legal process outsourcing. These are generally subject to normal advertising rules, along with Google and Meta policies.
  • Law firms outside India, where local professional rules govern advertising and may allow search campaigns.

What we can help with

For Indian advocates and firms: a factual, well-structured website covering practice areas, team, qualifications and contact details; an accurate Google Business Profile; and informational content that answers common legal questions without soliciting work. Discovery here comes mostly from search and maps rather than ads. See SEO for law firms.

For legal service businesses and firms abroad: Google Search campaigns for specific services (for example company registration, trademark filing or contract review platforms), Meta campaigns for awareness and retargeting where policies allow, landing pages that state scope, process and fees clearly, and call and form tracking. Google and Meta restrict some legal-service categories in some countries, so we check the relevant policies before launch.

Why trust matters more than reach

People looking for legal help are often stressed and comparing options carefully. Clear information about practice areas, qualifications, the process and how fees are discussed does more to earn an enquiry than any slogan. Whatever channels are allowed, the website and profile they lead to should make it easy to understand who you are and how to get in touch.

How we set up compliant campaigns

  1. Confirm what's allowed. Your entity type, jurisdiction, and the professional and platform rules that apply.
  2. Keep claims factual. No promises of outcomes, no "best lawyer" claims, no testimonials where they aren't permitted, and clear disclaimers where required.
  3. Target narrowly. Specific services and locations, with negative keywords for irrelevant searches.
  4. Protect confidentiality. Forms collect only what's needed to respond, with no sensitive case details, and access to enquiries is limited.
  5. Measure. Enquiries by service and source, with your feedback on which were relevant.
